Southern Vermont Hiking

Hiking in Southern is easily accessible to all abilities. From the beginner level Valley Trail, adjacent to the inn to the Appalachian Trail, there is something for everyone here.

Three mountains are close by: Haystack, Mount Snow and Stratton. All are level 3 or more difficult. Haystack is 3,445 feet, Mount Snow is 3,600, and Stratton, the highest peak in Windham County is 3,940.

A trail head for the Long Trail, a branch of the Appalachian Trail is about 20 minutes from the inn. Even to hike just a little, Monday morning back at the office you can brag about hiking the Appalachian, the Granddaddy of Eastern Trails.

We can assist you in planning your hikes, be sure to bring appropriate, worn in hiking shoes and gear, water, insect repellent, sunscreen, just to name a few. While it is helpful to have a cell phone, just be aware that service here in Southern Vermont can be intermittent.

Two award winning golf courses are within minutes of the Snow Goose Inn:  Mount Snow and Haystack Golf Courses. Nestled amid the Southern Green Mountains, both offer challenging terrain and unbelievable scenery. Each course offers rentals, lessons, and wonderful food and drink for sharing the tales of the day.
